Code Enforcement: General Meeting Recap

Community Members discussed code issues related to vacancy and arson at the General Meeting in mid-July. A database of vacant houses was generated - originally by crime watch members, and updated by Code Enforcement.  Please review the list and check on vacant properties that may be near your home or business.  Note any omissions or corrections by contacting us (, and REPORT any open, vacant structures to Code Enforcement.  As always, TPD's non-emergency line is (813) 231-6130.

AUGUST UPDATE: With several cases of arson and squatting discussed in July, it was clear that many of these properties have created a great concern for residents. The City of Tampa Code Enforcement Department is now conducting a pilot program in V.M. Ybor to address these vacant and foreclosed properties.
As a result, Code Enforcement has placarded 88+ properties with a "Notice to Vacate" (bright orange sticker). These are different from the "Vacant" Placards, previously used by Code Enforcement.  The "Notice to Vacate" gives TPD additional tools to address criminal activity in vacant properties.  The list of placarded properties was shared with TPD.  If you see suspicious activity at ANY of these properties, please contact TPD via the non-emergency number (813) 231-6130 and Code Enforcement.

Jake Slater, the Director of Code Enforcement recently presented information about this pilot program to City Council. You can view his presentation by clicking here.  This was Item #47 (AB) on the agenda (bookmarked video).
